Rear tire wear

A co-worker was aking me today about his 02 4-runner. Seems it just eats the inside edge on both rear tires. He said Toyota replaced the rear awhile back because it was leaking and couldnt be fixed?? I found that a little hard to believe. Any idea what would wear his tires?

That's a strait axle in the rear. I don't think there is an adjustment??? Could be the tires themselves
