i dont think i have a read locker as apart of my transmission, why does the light come on when i start the car and it shuts off, should it not come on?

 

No, your locker is not part of your transmission, it's part of your rear axle. Do you have a button to the left of your steering column that says "rr diff lock" -- sorta like my avatar? If not, then you don't have a locker, and maybe toyota uses the same inst. cluster for all the 4runners.
