rear diff leaking on 2000 4runner LTD

hello guys I rebuilt my rear diff about three years ago......I've been hearing this vibrating noise for a week now thought it's the front wheel bearing but dicided to check for tire wear and found that the rear tires has wear on the inside..hhhmmmm...so i took the brake drums out and to my surprize....the seal on the passenger side is leaking........So did a search here and found out that between 2000-2001 rear diff are bad....Anyhow, should I spend 1000 bucks on new parts or get a used rear diff from a 2001 with abs...I love my truck, I've owned it for six years and planning on keeping it for another at least three yrs...did the timing belt and water pump at 120000kms, change the rear bearings, seals, abs sensor at 130000kms. I am now sitting on 192000kms..
thanks for everyone's help in advance

Are you talking about the diff or the rear axle seal? If your rear brakes are covered in oil, it's the rear axle seal (which is common to blow out on 3rd gen 4runners). '01s and '02s don't have known diff issues so I'm not sure where you got that info, but the axle seals are a common problem on all '96-02 4runners.

2000 4Runner Rear Seal Installation Problem/Question

I've got a 2000 Limited 4 Runner with a right rear outside seal problem. Autozone seal was tapped in with a ball peen hammer and leaked. The same with a Vin Numbered Toyota. Mechanic with hammer say's been doin it like that ferever yet Local Toyota says have to have exact circumference tool to tap it in. Who's right? Thanks for the help
