Hey Hopefully someone can help me out with this one.

The truck's a 98 4runner automatic trans.
The problem: starting her
the symptoms: I turn the key and sometimes she won't start. As in no starter
noise no engine even turning over. I have found that the shifter seems from time to time to be "locked" as in stuck won't move when the truck won't start
sometimes it will move.
the key won't move past ACC but after turning it back and forth it does go past
finally.

When the truck actually does turn over it starts immediately and without
any hesitation. Hot or cold doesn't change any symptoms. I'm thinking
Ignition switch or a shifter issue (since we know they don't start unless in P)

Any thoughts anyone????

 

First off, grind a new key, that might help with the stuck ignition. You might wanna check out your shift-lock control.

 

also try starting it in N. see if that works.
