RE: uphill question

I just recently got back from dropping my step-daughter off at college. The Smokies are great even during the summer. I had posted a question asking for the best way to get my 4Runner up the long uphill over Black mountain on I40 and it was suggested to leave OD on and engage ECT. I did and it was the best trip over the mountain. The engine stayed in 4th most of the way up and only went to 3rd gear at 5000rpm near the top. Thanks for the suggestion to those who made it.

PS: it was great on the return trip on the way down the mountain to be cruising at 60mph at 1000rpm

Cool. I need to make that trip some day in a vehicle that has enough power. BTW, what did you think of the runaway truck ramps going down? When I was a young lad living in Tenn, we used to make that trip every summer on the way to my grandparents' homes in Goldsboro (I'm originally from NC). It was normal to see at least one truck on a ramp and one or two others rolling down the mtn with their brakes smoking.

Paul, that is good to hear that you made it ok. That is cool that the OD helped. I thought that it would. Very good to hear and glad that you had a good and safe trip! Congrats and welcome back! :fireman:

Thanks, good to be back. I saw all of the ramps but there were no trucks in any of them although two had evidence of trucks being in them recently by way of tracks. I had always wondered if the ramps messed up the trucks. I only past three trucks going down and they seemed in good control of their rigs. Had to be with all of the troopers patrolling the hill.:pat:
