LAUGH ALL YOU WANT BUT I NEED TO FIND OUT HOW TO REMOVE THE SPARE TIRE ASAP.

Ran out of ciggarettes and went to my truck to hi-tail it to 7-11 and whahh... my rear tire is FLAT! Got a spare in the back underside of the truck ('99 4-runner) but it's my first truck that had a spare mounted underneath the truck and it's got some weird plate thing holding on the tire. Not a bolt.

Do I just hammer that plate off or is there a release lever somewhere inside the truck?

HELP... NICOTINE FIT HERE!

 

Under the rear seat there should be the necessary tools.
Insert funky tube through hole in rear bumper and turn counter-clockwise to lower tire.
You should be able to figure it out from there.

 

Eddie, read your manual. In the spare tire tool kit (behind the seat in a truck, in a rear compartment in a Runner) there are tools to assemble a rod. The rod fits into an opening and the spare tire is lowered via a crank system.

 

THERE IS NO MANUAL.

Okay, a kit under the seat.. I'll look for it. On the right side of the hatch was a panel that looked like a jack kit should be in there but I found nuttin. I have the tools needed but didn't find a manual or jack kit. THANKS! I'll BRB

 

Holy CRAP! I would have NEVER gotten that tire off without the super long unwinder thing located under the seat. Had to stick it in a TINY little OBSCURE hole.

Thanks guys! I would have eventually found the spare tire kit myself I'm sure, but Nicotine withdrawal was doing strange things to my mind.

 

You won't see the hole in the bumper until you lift the rear gate open either. It is a bit different from the 2nd generations. Once you open the gate, insert the opposite end of the lug nut wrench (which is stored under the rear seat on the passenger side) and turn it until the tire reaches the ground. Waaa Laa!

 

My GF had a neat answer - I turned to her and said "How do you remove a spare tire?"
She said "Exercise!"

its in ur manual but
1)take the crank shaft out of rear seat
2)theres a little how beside there rear trunk latch put it in the hole and turn and it should come off!

First you have to undo the spark plug wires. Ok then go under the dash and find zip tie number 46 (it will be clearly marked) and remove it. After that all you have to do is put a pipe wrench on the tail pipe and turn. the spare tire will drop right down.

 

I thought it was zip tie then spark plugs

 

I'm happy to know I'm not the only retard on this site
