Question about Tacomas

My friend is starting to look at '99+ Tacomas to replace his Jetta ( finally) and he does want the rear diff locker and I was wondering if the TRD package included the locker or is it an extra option?

The packages differed from year to year but for the most part, just cause it's a TRD model doesn't mean it has a locker. I know back in 98, you could get a locker on a non TRD truck. Just had to oder it that way. I'd bend down and make sure you see a solenoid and not just assume it has one cause it's a TRD model.

Does it share the 4Runner's locker button and position?

It sure does!
Best to take 10 seconds and look to be sure.

My understanding is that all TRD package equipped Taco's had the locker. But, as was mentioned, some non-TRD Taco's could have the locker added - but its rare.

Just wondering, why doesn't he want the locking rear diff? Just don't turn it on. I've had my truck for 3.5 years and used it twice. Once to try and another to get out of a small ditch.
