Problems starting to surface?

Don't blow off the trouble codes, they're there for a reason and keep coming back for an even stronger reason.
Can you tell us what the actual codes were? The combination of them means more than each one separately. If you're curious, there's a list of them here:
https://www.yotatech.com/~corey/tech/dr_z_obd/dr_z.htm
"Bank 1 lean" and "something about the MAF" could point to a couple of different things. Again, if you remember the numbers, we can help Or, keep an handle on the numbers and make sure you let Gadget know when you see him. In fact, I'd lay odds that the CEL comes back on soon.
fwiw, I'm still betting on the cat not really being the problem..
Were you able to get the old cat?

Negative on the old cat. They said it has to be sent back to Toyota so the can examine it. He prolly wanted to scrap it. As far as the check engine lights comming back on, they haven't. I was supposed to bring it to the dealer monday so they can erase them because they said it is probably adjusting to the new cat. It actually seems like it is quicker now. Like when I first installed it.

Gadget just responded to my E-mail. It is set for this weekend to go get my baby tuned. Hopefully all works out, and he is able to get rid of the problems I was having. Since I bought the OBDII scanner, and reset the codes it hasn't given me any problems. Toyota said to bring it in Monday (tomorrow) and they'll reset the codes to see if will help because the new cat and the computer didn't get along yet.
I will keep you all informed as to the progress. And I will have to get it on a dyno to see some numbers.

Another problem.
I took it to have the bung welded in. It turns out when they replaced the cat they used one out of a Landcruiser and now I have no place to really put the O2 bung in before the first cat. If I do itwill only read one side as the headers meet right at the cat. Can I have Gadget run his O2 sensor just by tapping into 2 of the 4 wires on mine? How have the other with URD kits tuned them?

Has anyone tweaked/tuned the Split Second FTC without the O2 sensor that I am having problems getting the bung welded in for. Now they are saying that the x-over pipe has to come down to do this since there is no room, and that is going to run me at least $150 now.

I've used the stock O2 sensor with an Air/Fuel meter to tune and got decent results. The _prefered_ method is to use the wide-band O2 sensor that you're trying to get fitted.
Given that you're going to see Gadget in 2 days, then I would wait. He's a guy that comes up with interesting solutions to problems like you're facing.

I've been talking to him and he need that bung to be welded in. The problem is that there is no room for it except maybe on top and they can't say if there will be enough room to get it in there. My headers meet right at the first cat. It can be done on the bottom, but he said that the condensation will crack the ceramic on the O2 sensor. I tried to upload the pics, but I can't. There is one other spot it may be welded in and that is right where the headers come together, and they have no way of telling if there is a "webbing" inside that seperates the two chambers until they drill into it.

Where can I get an air/fuel meter from? What do they typically run? Where does it get connected to?

Well, Going back to stock is starting to really win me over. I'll take a huge hit and all, but to have my truck last longer will be the trade off. I am probably doind alot of damage to the internals. I already have someone interesed, but the added power I will miss. But to gain probably only 100HP if that for like $5,000 is not worth it in my book. Plus I am having a hard time with whatever I try to do. If I do sell, I want whoever takes the stuff to put back on the old stuff which this guy down the block does not want to do. If anyone local thinks they may be interested, let me know. Take it off put on my old stuff and get a discount
I really don't know where I'm at right now with all these mixed feeling running through my head. But I can also turn around and use this money for something better. Maybe an already fast from the factory car. Like I said it really is seeming like a waste of time and money and right now at this moment I totally regret doing anything to it. If I can get this thing tuned PROPERLY, I will want to keep it. But as of now I doubt I will even go see Gadget and waste his time, but I still am going to DC. And if he does still want to look at it when I go down, he'll probably show me a spot to put it and I will have to go all the way back down there someday not in the near future. My money tree is picked to the branches with all these credit card charges.
edit: I doubt I can even get this thing welded on now. The welder is off tomorrow and will be back Monday, so I'm ish out of luck I'd say. If it wasn't for this damn cat going bad it would be on already somewhere. Seems as if I live in an area where not many "welders" can weld stainless :pat:

The amount of stuff that you can learn from standing next to Gadget for a couple of hours is incredible. If nothing else maybe _HE_ can relax you from being so ying/yang about this, and give you some real ideas about what to expect from the work you've had done.
Gadget's a staple in the Toyota community when it comes to engine work. The chance to pick his brain for a while, or just to absorb is pretty cool. You REALLY need to take this opportunity and go see him.
Regarding the AFM, yes, that's one example. I use this http://www.halmeter.com/ with my _stock_ O2 sensor and it works "fine". Tapping into the stock O2 sensor isn't perfect, but it's a lot better than nothing and cleaned up the tuning issues I was having.
Price wise, I found one on eBay for $76.

Don't get me wrong, I still want to get a chance for him to look at this all. But I'd rather get some stuff done rather than going down there, him finding a spot me going home and then having to go back. It would be nice to get it tuned properly by him. But it's just a bummer I guess you can say, to have burned a hole in my pocket and have it not perform properly.
I'm going to pass the idea of selling some of the stuff by my g/f. She seems knows me better than me and how I will feel down the road. Plus she can always remind me of how unhappy I would get when I would run into problems and I will start to feel better.
I'm off to Ebay for a little to go look at some "new" vehicles. Just in case.

sigh... okay, it sounds like you'll do what you want. I really think you're missing the point that Gadget can help _A LOT_ even in the state that you are now. The AFM is a tuning tool, but there's nothing stopping him from NOT using it. Many people here (myself included) have done a good ballpark tuning without needing an AFM.
The symptoms that you're seeing can be made to go away without the need for an AFM. The AFM comes into play in fine tuning your truck for top performance. Which will come _AFTER_ you get the big issues resolved.
It's clear that no one near you has been able to solve the BIG issues you have, and you're going to right in the backyard of one of THE guys that can help you.
I really don't understand why you're thinking of not going to see him. Is it an embarrassment issue? There's nothing to be embarrased about - it's a learning process.

dude .. I feel for ya. But honestly at this point your too far into the game. You've already spent thousands .. a few more hundred isn't going to kill ya.
I say you take the afternoon off, find an exhaust shop and have the thing welded on today/tomorrow. Take it down to Gadget and let him do what he needs to do, and then go from there.
I was in the same boat as you a few months ago. I think I even offered to help put in both of ours s/c at the same time. I finally just decided this truck is either going to be a rock crawler or speed truck .. can't do both. So I sold the s/c and picked up a used sport bike for a little more then the cost of the s/c and the fuel mods, and install. My point is that I caught it early enough, and I didn't lose any money on the deal. If you go through this, your going to take a huge hit, and are going to regret it for a long time.
Just sit back have a smoke, crack open the yellow pages and start calling. I would also call up the local sport tuning shops for like race cars, and rice rockets . .they tend to have some good ideas with exhaust tricks, at the least they would be able to point you in the right direction. Also drive out to some of the shops, they seem to be more willing to help once they meet you, rather then just talking on over the phone. Your almost there, just put in a little more effort and money and hopefully it will pay off
