Premium Gas or Regular Opinions

Cool. I have a 96 Tsi AWD but it is always in the shop and costs a fortune. Wanted the reliability of the Toyota plus living in New England with the winters and driving on major interstates with the 18 wheelers etc. The Talon is what I use to get to the train station and back and when I need a second car. The 4Runner is for everything else. I am hoping my "fleet" lasts me 30 years!

I used to drive and race a fairly modded Eclipse (roughly 350 crankhorse) and on the street 91 was fine but at the strip running 18psi and on hot days I needed 105 octane to keep the knock away and the timing advanced to continue making power all the way down the strip.

Thats pretty cool, I have a 92' TSi myself andmy 97' Runner
That is pretty coincidental for all 3 of us
You guys on any sites (dsmtuners for me).
Anyhow, like I said andrew; you dont have to if you dont want to. If for whatever reason your motor doesnt like it (im talking the new 4.7's) it will retard the timing and run totally fine. But I promise, if for some reason 91+ would prevent any knock or ping (high revs in low elevation or something) then you would notice MORE power out of the motor as it will run less conservative timing the higher the octane.
Also someone else said, there is plenty of torque in those things, I wouldnt put anything more than 87 if I had one (and my step mom does and tahts what we use).

i get a good laugh out of guys that run mid grade or premium gas in their 22R-Es. i even run the cheap stuff in everything i have and i've never had a single problem, except when my timing is off.
