I've been searching and reading all the posts about shocks and Springs. I'm interested in your long term opinions on the PP Springs and HD Bilsteins. How is the ride holding up? Any sag? Did you upgrade anything lift wize and what did you change or what would you change?

No sagging after 2 years / 50k miles. I thought I was getting a lot of lean due to the springs, but it turns out I was having issues with sway bar end links (well, one end link).

Ultimately, its a fine setup for running 265 / 75 R 16s (of course, so was stock). You'll notice that your 4runner looks like a 4wd compared to the other grocery getters. Its subtle, but noticeable. Especially to the women in your life.

 

I don't have this setup but thought about it in the past. My only beef w/ this combo is the price. For a cheaper amount, you can get the same type of lift w/ OME stuff. OME does sag after time as others will allude to but not much. If I was going for lift, I'd do OME...

 

Price wasn't that bad under 600 dollors. OME sag and other ride concerns has swayed me away from them. I like Steve's OEM set up., but i don't think I'll need that much lift. I don't think my 4R will see anything worse then an unimproved road, and I'm planning on staying with 265/75/16 for awhile. I have dreams of OEM lift, ARB lockers, bigger gears, larger tires, and defeating hard trails but realisticly, it's going to haul me, and my tools down an expressway to work, and on the odd weekend pull a trailer with my Rhino on it for me to hit the trails with.

Here's a few from rides last year...

 

i have this combination as to many others. its more geared for the occassional off roader who does not want a > 2" lift, but also wants the ability to put larger 32" tires and have added clearance. it can be a little stiff on the washboards (death valley...ugh), but lowering tire pressure always helps. its great on the road too

overall, im happy. more expensive than spaces which would be the cheap solution. i guess it depends on your budget, your needs, etc

i like these springs a lot.

ive put about 20K on this setup, perhaps more, ill have to see... but yeah, it is absolutely great if youre not gonna be doing much hardcore wheeling.

that said, im swapping out to OMEs very soon, so ill have my front and rear pp springs for sale in a month or two.

 

Lee why the change? Also should you do the diff drop with this lift? Did you change anything in the Front when you put your bumper on?

I drove for 2 years w/o diff drop or longer sway bar links. No issues. In the last 6 month i've done both. Reason being, I'm going taller shortly. if you click on the link in my sig, then go down you'll get a pic of how nice the CVs look with a diff drop. (though they looked good w/o that drop as well)

 

I run OME 881s up front too (no spacers or tim packers) with no diff drop and my CV angles are fine as well.

 

pp lift doesnt require modding anything else, no. no changes to the front with the tjm.... tjm meets up with the factory brackets.

im making the change because i want to run larger tires, and gain more clearance all around so i can run harder trails. ive done pretty much all i can do with this height.

this lift coupled with the locker thats going in will set me up pretty well.

 

What are you doing with the 265s? Are you keeping the Billies?

 

Lee: I'd be interested in the billies and the springs if you were lookin to upgrade....!!

 

right now, i am involved in a potential trade... my rims and tires for a ne4roc members nice aftermarket rims and 305 procomps...

we have about the same tread left... hes returning to stock to get a trail rig.

he might take my pp springs too.. im keeping my front billies but will be upgrading to longtravels in the rear, so rear billies may be for sale too.

I've been running mine for almost 80,000 miles and have had no sag problems at all and I tow a trailer and carry my dirt bike on a hitch hauler. The ride is terrific and it meets my needs. Good luck!

 

I've had mine on for about 2 years. PP springs and Bilsteins. They settled about 1/2" when I first installed them, they haven't sagged since then. I got about 1 1/2" of lift out of them. I had to install the diff drop. My cv's started to spit grease. I really like them. Off roading they are great except when doing rock crawling stuff, then I wish they were a little softer. I run 265/75x16 but I think i can fit 285/75x16's without any other mods. I have plenty of clearance with the 265's. i am going ot try in a couple of months when my tires wear down a little more.

 

have fun taking those rear billies off Lee...when i installed my PP springs with billies...I had to cut the old rear shocks...they were almost next to impossible to remove....so i ended up cutting them.
