Possessed temp control knob

Hey everyone I have a 2001 4 runner limited with auto climate control and it seems the left knob which controls the temperature in the vehicle is completely possessed when I turn it up it turns down when I turn it down it turns up what the hell is going on?! I have the entire PCB out right now as I have to replace the two backlight LEDs in the LCD display so is there a way to fix this? It seems both the dial to turn up and down the temperature as well as the fan speed control dial are both soldered to the board.

Sweet. Mine has lost the backlighting entirely, but the temp control knob only acts crazy when set to Auto and the car is freezing cold. I always assumed that was just it's way of saying, "it's 10 degrees in here, and you want me to do what?! Turn it up all you want - 63. 72. 77. 64. 68. Sucker!"

The backlight is an easy fix. There are two little led bulbs part number 81850-35020. They are $10 a piece at the stealership. However the button control pcb repair is $69 from autoecu.com which is a bargain for getting accurate controls.
