ping spark knock

Hey guys I got this very annoying pinging/knocking noise in my engine on lite acceleration I think its detonation!!!!!I have tried carbon cleaner,in tank injector flush, colder heat range plugs, set the ignition timming to spec's,it gets better with premium fuel but I can't afford that every day. What do you suggest?

try using a higher octane fuel for a tank or two and see if it gets quieter or goes away. I use 93 for that very reason, anything lower I get pinging.

EDIT: oops, I just read your post completely. just alternate a tank of the good stuff, a tank of the lower priced stuff, and so on to fit your budget. for me it's worth the extra cost.

My 22re is expensive to replace, I run the highest octane I can get around here.... Currently in the middle of a test about mileage

Exclamation Yeah, I wasted the $ to take mine to the stealer..

My 3.0 does this same thing, like when you put it in drive and barely give it gas it makes a tapping/thumping kind of sound. I thought I was having a bearing go so I made an apt. at the stealer to get another opinion. They say it’s my #1 wrist pin going out that when they hooked it up to the computer and shut fuel and spark off to it the engine was quiet and with a stethescpe they could hear the pin knocking in the piston or rod! They also told me that I would be lucky to get 5,000 more miles out of it! Then they told me that they could install a new engine for about $4500!!! I said F-U and left that was about 20,000 flawless gas guzzling miles ago! If it is a wrist pin then I hope it holds up for at least another 50,000 since I will not be against doing an engine swap at 200,000k! Does any one else get this with their 3.0? Chime in I would like to know if I do have a wrist pin going or if my engine is not alone with this noise! If I do have a pin going I am going to start looking for the components for an engine swap now so when I do finally kill it I will be ready to go! Thanks, Matt

I found this http://www.cybertrails.com/~bestinth...oy88Knock.html
while trying to find a new knock sensor for my truck after I broke it off pulling the fuel filter. Maybe check your connection there too. I've heard the connection is really touchy about contamination. If this sensor or it's signal is messed up, it directly affects the computer's adjustment of the spark advance. I don't know what engine you have, if it's a 22re, the sensor is on the block just between the oil filter and fuel filter. Even after pulling the EFI fuse, I still have a CE light pointing to my knock sensor, but no pinging w/85 octane and timing at spec. I may try this trick to see if it gets rid of the trouble code. He says it works with many engines other than the 22re.
This is all assuming your rig is EFI.

Has any one tried this fix on a 3.0L V-6 before? If so how did it work?

Mine has the same problem.....It all started within the past month or so. I wonder if we're just not getting ripped off on the gas. 87 octane never pinged befor but now it does and bad.

What I've don is fill my tank about 3/4 way full with 87. Then top it off with 92. It's cheapper than running a full tank of 89 and I have about the same amount of pinging. Very little.

by what about 80 cents a tank? hardly worth swiping, pumping and paying for 3/4 and then swiping, pumping and paying for 1/4. I usually don't have alot of time when I stop for gas so I just do without a 20 oz. coke and spend it on the full blown 93 octane juice.
