They are designed to minimalize the amount of debris that builds up on the rear hatch glass. Mine does a fair job of it. Not great, but ok.
The reason why some 4Runner got them and some did not...you got me
. I can only assume Toyota considered it an option and not a standard piece of equipment. Thus, some 4Runner got it, some did not.Oh and Silver97, nice 4Runner...especially the wheels

Either way, since you don't have anything mounted on the back of your hatch, it's drilling the mounting holes that will be fun
(unless of course you have the holes pre-drilled.)

i think im gonna get the rear thing for christmas, so my dad is gonna call the toyota dealership and ask about it.
also how much tint do you have installed?

IMO, they do as good a job as any other wheel in their size/category off road. I tend to stay clear of objects that might damage them though...I'm still babying them
