They work as described and are generally pretty dern accurate.

(for other folk's reference: http://www.escortradar.com/gtimer.htm)

The Escort GT2 is more "fun" than the GT1 because you can download the data stream from a run to your PC and play with graphs, charts, etc. Plus it also allows you to keep a performance history while you work on mods and such.

There are also the products from G-Tech:
http://www.gtechpro.com/products.html

The G-Tech Pro is like the Escort GT1, and the G-Tech Competition is like the Escort GT2.

And, if you don't care about displays and have a Windows based computer, then there's the PocketDyno:
http://www.pdyno.com/

Each of those products are as accurate as the other, and there is no real additional accuracy between the lower and upper products from the same manufacturer. The measurement technology is all the same, the difference is in how much information is display, how it's displayed, and if the data is downloadable.

Then there's the Road Dyno which is _not_ accelerometer based, but works off of your ignition system:

The downside to the dyno products is that they tend to be single-use things. Once you use them to get performance numbers out of your rig, then you tend to disconnect them and stuff them in the closet. That being the case, you can usually find pretty good pricing on eBay from folks selling them after getting what they can out of 'em:

http://search.ebay.com/search/search...1&query=g-tech

There is also the Auterra interface for Palm OS boxes which uses the ODB II interface to gather it's data:
http://www.auterraweb.com/

The cool thing about the Auterra device is that it's not just a dyno, it's a nice ODB II scan tool as well and can be used for tuning, and reading/clearing diagnostic codes. The best pricing for the Auterra interface is also found on eBay:

Have fun!

Umm, we're talking about acceleration meters, devices that give you ET's, horsepower and torque numbers. I can't find anything on that site 'cept for radar detector information.

Do you have a link for the BCT-9? I can't find anything about it on Uniden's site or with Google.

What is it? It looks like the BCT-7 & -8 are digital scanners...

Does anyone have one of these units they'd like to get rid of?

Hey Mark, do you think I can use the G-tech or Escort units if I don't have a cigarette lighter? Would I connect them directly to the battery? The reason I'm asking is that they claim they plug into the cigarrete lighter and are able to tell what the RPM's are. I'm wanting to use it on my Dad's Polaris Ranger XP, which is a side-by-side ATV, so I'm not sure if it will work or not.
