That's pretty ugly.

I'd sand it down a bit and just paint over it.

Shouldn't be a big deal.

Are the SC's aluminum? What I've always heard was that your not supposed to paint aluminum since it loses its heat sinking abilities

That looks really good. What kind of paint did you use? Just some high-temp engine paint? Also aren't you worried about the amount of heat that you are retaining with it being painted?

That's what I figured, i'm just worried about it retaining too much heat with the paint on. Paint is a very good insulator.

This is my worry.

Yes they are aluminum, i'm also worried about the heat, although they do come powdercoated from TRD.

go for brushed aluminum... seriously... only downside is that you might have to keep it meticulously clean so it doesnt corrode...

I doubt the paint will have anymore of an effect on the heat then the stock paint they come with. Non-issue if you ask me.

looks like a shotty paint job, if you leave it under ur hood and wheel a little after about 10 or 15k miles it might wear off

Yeah I could always clearcoat it so that way it still looks like brushed aluminum but won't corrode.

Like any project it's all in the prep work, especially with auto painting it's everything. Spray in a clean room if possible, diy plastic drape works. Remove all of the old paint as you can wipe with dust free cloth, hang and spray. Wear a filter mask so your around for your family and kids lol. Lessen infiltration of dust and bugs which wreak havoic on paint jobs. Fight the tempation to touch, let it hang in a dry place for 24 hrs.

Hope this helps.....8sm
Appreciate the info, that will help a lot.

have you tried aircraft paint remover? comes in a paint thinner style can and is available at pepboys. that would be my next step. Be careful with the stuff though.

the great thing about aircraft remover and mek is that they evaporate and leave no residue. before you put down your first coat of pain, wipe the sc down with some acetone or mek, being careful not to handle the part. the paint will adhere a lot better

oh, and all the chemicals are cheap
