Overdrive Question
When I'm driving on the freeway with overdrive on, I turn about 2100 RPM at 65 mph. It will stay consistant as long as I cruise at the same speed. When I press the gas in a little, it will slowly accelerate, and the RMPs slowly increase. If I push it in a little more, it will jump to about 2450 RPM for a short period to accelerate even faster. It seems like it downshifted, but I don't think it really did. When I turn off the OD to shift it back into 3rd, the RPM jumps closer to 3000 RPM @ 65 MPH. If I was in 4th (O/D on) the whole time, what's with the slight jump in RPMs when I press in the gas pedal? I did a search, but nothing seems to address my question.

your torque converter unlocked. did you have ECT power on or off? it unlockes easier with it on, giving you that added advantage it being unlocked when accelerating.
try this next time you're on the road. get a consistant 65. when nobody is behind you, slightly tap the brakes with your left foot (just enough to activate the brake lights but not actually slow you down any) while holding on the gas with your right. you'll see the same thing happen. when your brakes are tripped your torque converter automaticly unlocks.
your torque converter locks up when the driveshaft is spinning at a very close rate as the crankshaft, allowing it to lock up. it unlocks so the engine can accelerate hard

Learn to manipulate the torque converter to your advantage. I assume you drive around with O/D on most of the time. Next time you are on the freeway at about 60-65, step on it and let it do a complete downshift (not just a torque converter unlock) take a look at your rpm's then click O/D off and watch them drop by about 500 as the torque coverter locks back up. You can use these extra rpm's to get more out of 3rd gear for passing, hills, towing, etc. Once you learn how to do this efficiently (timing/speed), it will become a great tool for better acceleration at high speeds.
