On the inside is a large rubber washer, same size steel washer, and a nylon lock nut (M6 X 1.0).

There are no clearance issues on the inside of the liftgate. The bar is super solid. I suppose you could bend the lift gate skin if you wrenched the snot out of it, but the directions call for only 5.5 ft.-lbs of torque on the nut.

On the outside is a foam washer and you need to use silcone sealer to ensure the water stays out.

Here is the Subaru Part Number - E7510LS002 "Rear Gate Bar". I paid $45 at the dealer, but have since seem them online for less (figures).

Do you think this will overtake the deckplate mod as most popular on yotatech ??
^^ theres the info right there

Nice mod. Looks almost factory. Also like the clear corners and the updated lights. Real nice Runner you got there.

I sell this guard, and have it on my 4Runner as well, BUT, it's been discontinued! I have the same style in smoke avail. but no more carbon.

This thing does block the bugs!

purely for looks. You don't see many 98 4Runners in my color with hood scoop and aluminium poser skid plate.

I had a 99 black sport edition 5spd, but got in a bad wreck and rolled it. Now i have a silver one which is almost identical, yet its not the sport...Everytime i seed a runner intown with a hood scoop i want one so bad again. Was it a hard install, where can i get one besides a dealer, and also that alum. skid plate....? Thanks in advance

Got the hood from the dealer and had it painted. There are endless threads on yotatech for alternative sources, I just can't remember them right now (try a search). As for the skidplate, I picked it up on ebay for like 100 bucks several years ago.

Sorry about your sport edition - that sucks! I'll drink one in its honor

Are those the crystal clear corners and bumpers or the frosted? I wanna get the ones to match the stock headlights on my '99 but I thought they were clearer than that...

They are the clear corners to match the 2002 headlights I put in. They are leaking and are cloudy with water
