A couple of months ago I pulled my stock clutch fan to install a permacool 18" fan. While I was tightening the nuts with some washers as spacers I accidently over torqued one of the nuts and it broke the stud. I went the local home depot and picked up a new nut of the same thread pitch and luckily had enough threads left for it to hang on (has been good since I did this anyways). You can kind of see what I'm talking about in this blurry pic:



Also when I wash my car the belts will squeal for about 15 seconds when I first start it up or drive out. I assume this is happening now because the efan doesn't kick on when it is first started or while running in an auto car wash like the clutch fan would be keeping water off the belts.

This weekend I will be installing the TuRD SC and URD fuel upgrade goodies and at the same time I'm going to be replacing all the belts. I figured I would also see about replacing the stud I broke. Couple of questions:

I replaced all my studs with shorter bolts after I removed the fan. That way you don't need a stack of washers to fill the gap.

On the squealing, check the belt tension. The fan or lack there of has nothing to do with it IMHO.

Does that pulley just slide off the studs when you remove the belts? Where is a good place to get shorter studs and do they need to be pressed in or anything?

Yep, just slides off after you remove the nuts too of course. Ace hardware has metric bolts that size. Studs are just threaded into place, you may have to jam double nuts on them to get a grip on them though. That could be a problem with your broken one.
