oil pan removal

i have tried many different searches for the answer to my question to no avail. So, here it is: Is there any way to remove the oil pan without taking apart the steering? I have had it off the block before, but had to drop the diff and remove all the steering components (PITA to put back together) just to get the pan out. Any suggestions? All I need to do is re-apply some silicone (or something better?) 'cause it freakin leaks thanks though.

is this on a 3vze? you might be able to loosen the motor mounts and jack the motor up to get some more room

Ya Dude is right take the bolts out of the motor mounts and jack the motor up as high as you can with an engine lift. Then you have to take off the corner braces that mount to the bell housing and the block, because there in the way of dropping the pan. Other than that its just some manuvering(sp) to get it around the pick up tube. After you get the oil pan out, remove the pick up tube and Then clean the p/u tube if needed and clean the surfaces on the pan and the windage tray before you put on new gaskets. Then reverse, another thing to think about is, it sounds like you have had the oil pan off before, some times the windage tray gets bent just slightly, and will have an effect on the oil pan sealing. Took me doing my buddys twice, and the thrid time I went to toyota and purchased a new windage tray and problem solved, just something to think about. oh ya &

Awsome thats a relief. the first time i took the pan off i bent the windage tray a little, but hamered it back flat a didn't think it would matter, but obvioulsy it did. Thanks for the help. Are there gaskets between the pan and block? I never got any with my rebuld kit, and assumed you were supposed to just silicone (or RTV) it on there? Thanks again.

by the way, it is the 3vze.
