Oil leak?

I was curious if oil was supposed to be where it is in the following picture:

I don't know if you can tell from the following picture, but there's also soaked-in oil all over the axle starting on the driver's side near the wheel and going a little past the front diff:

Any thoughts? I just had an oil change which might explain the oil on my skid plate and front diff, etc.

Thanks in advance for the replies!

I would try cleaning up the oil that's there now, then see if you can trace where the leak may be coming from. good luck

Thanks for the response. I'll do that...BTW- I have been smelling (what I think is) burning oil, however after doing some additional looking around, I think that it is dripping on the exhaust and therefore is burning that way. Hopefully there isn't something a lot more serious here.

The second pic looks typical for what happens when oil is changed without removing the bunny deflector. Lots of old oil gets spilled on it. When you get up to speeds of 45 or so the oil will blow back onto everything. The driveshaft looks like maybe someone used liquid oil to lube the slip yoke instead of grease.

I agree, clean it up the best you can and look for more to appear.

Bunny Deflector?

O.k...I know this has absolutely no bearing whatsoever on the original post.....But I had to comment.....A " Bunny Deflector" ?.....I think that is one of the funniest things I have ever heard.....Yup...and I've decided....I'm going to have a picture airbrushed on my custom skid plate and call it that.....lol...thanks for the laugh even though I'm sure it wasn't intentional....lol
