I was almost sure that was the case, but the guy at Schucks said that normally the computer will list that two are needed of the same part if that is the case.

Tie Rods

Yes that is the confusion, the inner tie rods are the same part numbers. Here is the breakdown

45047-39215 Lt outer tie rod $39.83
45047-39335 Rt outer tie rod $39.83
45503-39075 Lt & Rt inner tie rods $99.61 each

Total for all with shipping from me would be $288.78

Let me know if you need any further information, hope this helps.

Todd

I'm assuming that no one has mentioned steering rack bushings because the play is only on one side as opposed to both sides? Or is there something else to it? I'm not all that familiar yet with the front end.

I haven't mentioned them because I just replaced mine two weekends ago with Energy Suspension polyurethanes and I still have the feeling in the steering.

maybe a cheaper alternative would be to give these a try. They sell reman's, new, and used ones.

The Steering Store

This unit is new with a 36 month waranty and includes inner tie rods.

quote from it's page:
"It comes complete including inner tie rods, new boots and clamps (unless otherwise noted). It includes a Full 36 Month Warranty. This part is not used or stripped from a junkyard. The Steering Store only sells the highest quality parts and stands behind them 100%."

Check what sort of thing? if you are talking about the company I posted, started with the BBB, but I couldn't find them in there when I looked. I also came up empty when searching for complaints about them in internet search engines.

Here's a rebuilt one for $287.81 with a $50 core ready to ship. I'm assuming it is a rebuilt oem one since they want your old one. It comes with the inner tie rods.

I think you're asking about how to check whether the rack and pinion is going bad?

The Steering Store

These people also have free shipping until the end of this month and free shipping for the core back to them, they provide a shipping label for the core return.

I would take a plunge with the reman from The Steering Store for 265 and free shipping. he-ll, it's half the price of the dealer new one. that's my personal opinion because that would leave me with 300 bucks for maybe a yellow top or some other mods.

Todd- Is this a common problem with these racks?? It seems like alot of us are noticing this. Man, this really sucks. So far so good with my tacoma but at over 600 beans for a yota one that sucks!!! I notice some feathering on the inside of the tire on that side too. I wonder why it would just be one side??

Little advice, don't tell this crowd you're a girl. they'll nag-nag-nag. but if you want quick help, that's how to get an opinion from about everyone on the board.

oh yeah, and i see it didnt take you long to respond, i only posted 20 minutes ago!

nagging doesnt bother me any, i just want to stay out of debt. besides, out of all the members on this forum, only 2 really talk to me. i think its because i dont know anything about cars so theres not a whole lot of conversations on this thing i can join in on.

when my 4runner has a problem, i take it to the shop. problem solved

Mikey, we haven't noticed this particular problem with the racks. Normally the gears either strip inside the rack or it just wears out. I would go with the reman'd Yota racks if I was buying one. We used to carry reman'd ones but evidently had problems keeping up our inventory from the company providing them.

Sublime, first off I like the name that is one of my all time favorite groups. Secondly, don't feel bad that you don't know much about cars. At least you have forums such as this to help you out when you need it. Let me know if you ever need anything for your rig or if you have any question I am always happy to help if I can.

yeah ive only posted 19 times but what can i talk about? everybody is talking about all sorts of car stuff. i know how to make one look good, but i sure dont know about making them run good.

i dont have many questions about my own because it runs very well for some reason, and i cant answer anybody else's questions. so all i can do is sit and read....

think about it, its a little hard to join in on conversations when you dont even know what everyone is talking about.

so is somebody going to tell me how to check for that problem?

Sublime,

Don't worry much about not knowing alot about cars- I'm 30, and I've probably learned more in the last 3-4 months than in the previous 14 years! That's what yotatech is all about. To if your stearing rack is going bad, I think you basically get underneath the vehicle and try to shack the inner tierod. It shouldn't move much if at all, and if it wiggles around a bit, thats a bad sign. Someone else may correct me on this.
