Obd2 port under hood vs inside the cabin

on a 2001 bmw x5 4.4 what is the difference between the obd2 port underhood or the obd2 port inside the vehicle?

The port in the cabin is obd2. The one under the hood isnt. Its a bmw specific diagnostic connecotor that will likely tell you information that the obd2 wont. If you want to look into it in more detail I'd suggest you post in a BMW forum. This is likely all the help you'll receive here.
