o2 sensor location

have a check engine light on a 96 SR5 4runner V6 auto. read the code and it's a bad O2 sensor 1 location 1. how do i know which side this is? i'm assuming location 1 is before the cat.

also, any recomendations for where to get the replacement sensor. should i get toyota or is there a decent aftermarket one?

thanks

dave

The 96 has 2 o2 sensors one just before the cat and one just after. You are correct that the pre-cat o2 is the sensor 1 o2. At work we always use aftermarkets with good results, but for my rig, I try to use Toyota parts in general, though it is based on feeling, not fact. I have found that more times than not, the o2 is at fault for this code on the 3rd gens, but I always check to see if the o2 is acually reading correctly an exhaust reading too lean or rich caused by some other problem upstream.

The 3.4 only has one bank of sensors. So both of them are bank 1.

Bank 1 sensor 1 is the front sensor before the cat

Bank 1 sensor 2 is the second one, the one rear of the cat.

www.URDUSA.com has some kick ass prices on O2 sensors. They are real DENSO direct plug in. DENSO makes them for Toyota and is what came on your truck STOCK.

probably one of the best priced and quality O2 you can get your hands on is definatly bosch... check out this site: http://www.toyautoparts.com/ it may be a little cheaper.

rock on,
matt
