Normal Rims and Big Tires or Big Rims and Small Tires?

Vato Loco- Ha Ha...not saying that it was a good idea but I was just trying to show that a big rim with a decent size tire (275/45) is rather reliable and not as delicate as some people tend to think.

I don't know if anybody has heard about it, but a cop here in South Florida was shot and killed by some scumbags trying to steal some *bling* Escalade wheels at a Cadillac dealership last week. He was just 25 years old. I think some people will go too far for the "look at me" appeal. Just makes me hate those type of wheels even more.

Actually... it probably has nothing to do with the rims them selves... its probably the $2k he would get from selling them that he wanted, not the rims themselves. I'm sorry to hear somebody died because of it, but he didn't kill the cop because he wanted the rims, he did it out of desperation.
We need to put a sticky on this thread... it seems there is a new one every week. as for my opnion on big or small... if you want a vehicle to stay on the street, buy a car that wants to be a truck... if you want a truck, buy a 4Runner... its made to venture off the beaten path, not hug the back roads. as for me, i'm going up.

just my .02

From a performance standpoint, not a Bling Bling standpoint, I will have to say that the smaller rim/larger tire is going to outperform the larger rim/smaller tire. First, it's going to be lighter. Second, the footprint when aired down will be wider. And third, the truck will not be suseptible to breaking your wallet if you bend/crack a rim on a stump at the bottom of a mud hole or on a rock out on the Rubicon.
Just makes sense to keep either the stock size rim and put a larger tire on it. I know my 2nd Gen wouldn't like it if I put some 22" rims and then outfitted them with some sizeable rubber. I would be going from a 3.slow to a 3.no-go.
Anyway, just my .02

As you can see I have already done the small wheel, big tire thing. I spent more money fixing it, than I could ever spend on my '03.

What's the purpose of a truck/4runner if it's not going to see offroad duty? You can surely purchase something else instead? Is your Runner a 2wd? If it is then I can understand you not wanting to put the truck offroad, but that still doesn't mean that a larger rim/smaller tire combo is lighter than a smaller rim/larger tire, although I'm not an expert at how much either weighs, just makes sense that the smaller amount of metal/aluminum would weigh in less.
I know you are talking about a low-profile design on a larger rim, but doesn't that make you more susceptible to denting your rims and robbery?
I'm not trying to flame, just trying to understand you.

HEY CANT YOU GET 17 INCH RIMS WITH A 33 INCH TIRE, I tell you what when it comes to big rims the girls love that, they like the big 20's or else they like the huge 9 inch lift with 40's they dont care about a 3inch lift with 33's haha anyways, I am gonna go with 33s and 16 inch
