I've wanted to do the deckplate mod, but was worried I might screw up my airbox. Not many people have done the deckplate with the 22R-E 2nd gen pickups. Now my worries will be gone. I might try to fab up some kind of PVC plumbing so it sucks in cold air instead of the hot engine compartment air.

Just remember that the purpose of the deckplate mod is to free up the restrictions in the intake. Don't fab up to many bends in the plumbing and to use something like 4" pvc pipe.

Something to think about trying. If your lower airbox intake hole is located behind the headlight (like mine was) you can take out the stock pipe (the one that does an s turn followed by a 90* turn inside the box). And open the hole in the box up to a hole that a piece of staight 4" PVC pipe can fit thru and modify the headlight back cover to take the colder air from behind the headlight thru a straight pipe. Or you can just do like I did since you have a second airbox and just cut a big huge opening in the airbox. It did help some but now I need a new exhaust setup to get all of this new air out.
