4wd issues 93 runner v6 auto

I recently bought a 93 Runner automatic with the 3vze. pretty well equipped and the body/interior is really clean and straight. it had some complications at first like the overdrive wasn't operating and the driveshaft was vibrating when going faster than 45. I replaced the thermostat and now the overdrive works great - it wasn't reaching full temp so it wouldn't shift. I just replaced the spider bearing in the front u-joint on my driveshaft and now it doesn't vibrate. It runs solid!

BUT...

Two more problems popped up out of nowhere: 1) the front wheels don't operate in 4wd and the light doesn't go on now. 2) there is a gurgling coming from the engine on accelleration and when I turn the engine off. sounds like a cooling issue?

Any input would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!!

Hi welcome to the board.
Sounds like you are mechanically inclined.
The 4wd problem - this might due to vacuum leak so that the front axel doesn't engage. Do a search for it 4wd problem ADD or test that all you hoses are attached properly

this might also cure some of your gurgling noises (unless it is a cooling system issue)

right on. I'm going to check it out when I get home from work tonight. I just moved from Oregon and I don't have any tools down here so I'm kind of "garage-hopping" trying to troubleshoot this thing. Thanks for your help! this forum ROCKS!!

welcome aboard! take a look at waskilly wabbits home page, he has/had some pretty good writeups regarding mods. his was a 3rd gen though, the info is still good and detailed. another option would be to chech out 4crawler.com , another member and techincal wizard. there are plenty of members on here who have solid writeups on mods they have done, search away and be prepared for late nights reading and then doing!
