I just bought a 1994 4x4 Pickup (DX Extended Cab) with a 3.0L V-6 and an automatic tranny. The truck has 113,000 miles on it. I drove it home, and spent the next day getting it registered and tags. With new tags on it, I take it down to a friends house and the Check Engine light comes on...what a sickening feeling after just buying it (50 miles ago). So we pull the codes, and we read 14, 5, and 7. From what I can tell the 14 is the ignition, the 5 is the O2 sensor, and the 7 is the TPS.

Any solutions or advice for a first-time Toyota owner? All help would be appreciated.

 

The 02 Sensor and TPS are easy fixes...just get a new O2 sensor and replace that and then clean the TPS and those should be good for a while. Not sure about the ignition one...wait for some more knowledgeable members to reply...

EDIT: In case you didn't know, TPS stands for Throttle Positioning Sensor. And with the O2 sensor it is mounted on top of the pipe for the cat. converter...its a simple bolt on operation.
