My 01 4x4 extended cab has 76,550 miles on it and I'm thinking of replacing the shocks (never been done) before winter. I drive off road about 3 days a week but it's mostly hard ground and sand stone rocks , very steep old logging and minning roads and a few mud holes. I do know all about the search button but never found a direct answer to my question concerning my 01 Tacoma and my type of driving.
The stock shocks have been great to me but do any of you think I should replace them with something else other than Toyota shocks? Also Is there better spacers or gromlets that I should use as replacement one's while I'm doing this? My trucks not lifted but I'm running 16' wheels and 31" Wild Country tires and haul about 500 extra pounds on my truck at all times.
I'm not one of the rich guy's on here so the "supper-dupper best shocks in the world" are probably out of my league but I would like to have something that helps keep my baby running good off or on road Thanks , Mike

 

Ummmmm.....suck it up on your stock shocks for a little while longer and save up for a set of Bilsteins. If you love your truck you'll get Bilsteins.

 

Bilstiens and OME's are popular but expensive. I got Skyjacker Nitros on my 4Runner and am very happy with them. About $35 apiece.

 

Thanks for the replies . Don't know what the stock shocks cost but I'm sure there not really cheap either. They are not wore out yet by any means but I'm a ferm believer in preventive mainteinace and not the kind to wait until it fall's apart to fix it.
That $35.00 doesn't sound bad at all if they will last as long as the stock ones but give a little better ride?. Mike

 

id go with some Bilsteins if you dont plan on lifting the truck, or with some OMEs. Ive had both and i love my OMEs. bilsteins are high pressure and omes are low.

 

Ok, I have a similar question. I have a 2001 toyota tacoma d cab v6 4wd. It is non TRD , but it was a good deal for 13,500.00 with only 42k on it when purchased, it also has a 2.5 inch daystar lift on it. Nothing was wrong with it either! anyways I was looking into the Donahoe Racing Kit but I would really rather not spen 900.00 on just the front shocks. Is there a good kit out there for around 500-800?
