bought some denso plugs for the 97 limited 4runner, they are the double pronged ones, didnt plan on buying the double ones and didnt notice till i got home, but they are the correct ones called for by the autozone computer and a few other stores, anyways do they come pregapped? or do i have to attempt to gap both prongs? any help asap is appreciated, ive always done single prong plugs

when i got mine from the dealer i just looked them over and put them in right out of the box its been running great

i shall do that, it has boschs in it now , i bought it last month so i planned on replacing the plugs anyways but thought people were having bad luck with anything but denso's or ngks.

Denso Plugs cannot compare to the NGK Plugs in my mind, i ran Denso plugs for one year and then i switched to NGK and the MPG and performance were ALOT better, If you own a 3.4, pay more for the NGK plugs

here the denso and ngk were same priced but like 3 stores didnt have the ngks in stock, i believe i read under the hood that the spark plugs were supposed to be duel electrode, i assume that means dual prongs on the spark plug?

the boschs that came out were single electrode then, maybe the correct plugs will up my mpg at least a smidge lol

yea thier dual electrode...i run ngk's only from experience, but everyone i know that has ever used denso has had nothing but success also..

Toyota gave me Denso's I think. They were dual pronged and pre-gapped. I usually know to not trust the gapping on spark plugs, except for when they were as well packaged as those Denso's!

Ok, so what is wrong with the Bosch? They are a dual electrode. I just replaced my spark plugs on Friday with the Bosch. They feel good at higher RPMs, maybe a little weak at low RPM (or its just the extra weight in my 4runner the last few days)

"The problem that Bosch has acknowledged when using their Platinum plugs in engines with waste spark ignition systems stems from the tendency of electrode metal to get transferred depending upon the polarity (direction of current flow) of the spark. In waste spark ignition systems, 1/2 of the plugs always see reverse polarity sparks. Given the very narrow platinum center electrode of the Bosch Platinums, performance will be degraded more significantly when reverse polarity sparks will cause material to be transferred from the large ground/outer electrode onto the narrow platinum center electrode's exposed end surface.

In cars with conventional (1 coil) ignition systems, every spark is of the same polarity, for which the Bosch Platinums are optimized, leaving them to deliver their designed-in advantages, which include:

There remains some cars with conventional ignition systems which do not seem to get along very well with Bosch Platinums for reasons seemingly no one can explain (maybe all their sparks are of the 'wrong' polarity in some cases). "

The bottom line is do not run these plugs in a 5VZ-FE (3.4L) motor.

Somehow I have never seen any info on the Boschs like this. I don't know how I've missed the threads. I guess I'll need to exchange the Boschs for a set of NGKs. They feel better than the ones I replaced but they were worn. Thanks.

Well I pulled out the Boschs and returned them, no questions asked I told them I was getting bap gas milage and it ran bad which is true. I couldn't find any dual electrode NGKs so I went to Toyota and got Densos. The Toyota parts guy said that the Densos are the best. That is what I took out and it was running good, when they wern't worn out.

i say other wise. i put all densos in after 80k orignal miles on 3 densos and 3 ngk's and both looked just as bad. put new regular densos and runs like a champ. better gas mileage and etc

the denso's are fine, infact they are perfect...just as the ngk's are...it seems as tho brand is a matter of personal opinion....i change mine out a lot more often then 80k, prolly every 40k, thier cheap, and it keeps the truck running nice.
