Im a newbe to offroadin this is my first 4wd vehicle its a 93 4runner sr5 with the 5spd and the 22re engine with 120,000 miles. Still stock but i have big plans.(first being stepup removal)
any ideas for mods?

im in the springfield/eugene area but i drove up to portland to buy this toyota. so any ideas for first mods?

what are you planning to use it as, daily driver/wheeler, or just a wheeler, the first thing that popped into my head would be a SAS, but thats probably a little extreme for ya , thats a clean 93 though

yeah, sas is a little extreme for me. i had a few ideas though, i want to upgrade the tires to 31x10.5 bfg at/ko's and remove the running boards and bug shield as well as a few engine mods to squeeze a few more horsepower out of the litle 22re. other than that i was looking for some heavy duty front and rear bumpers that dont add a lot of weight. ideas?

although your rear sag isnt too bad, i would do new coils. set of sliders, new exaust, it comes down to how much $$$ you want to throw down...

coils? who should i buy them from, old man emu? downey? also if i lift the back will i have to crank the torsion bars to keep it level?

i did Downey's and did nothing with the front, i thought about cranking the torsion bars but didnt. i bought mine from someone here.

I didn't know they put the 22RE in the runners that year. Thought they all had V6's buy then. Defenately a nice and clean looking 4runner . I'm sure the people here will help you spend your money.

Gregg, this was the only toyota 4runner for sale around where i live with a 4cyl all the others had 6cyls, so maybe its just rarer( is that a word?)

I use to own a '92 4-Runner, w/the 22RE I4 engine and 5 speed. It had No options at all. Especially no electric windows, which I liked, except for the rear windows. It was a big mistake, on my part, to get rid of it for my Tacoma. Yours is the first that I've seen w/chrome bumpers, w/the 22RE I4 engine I mean. All the ones I've seen, including mine, had the gray painted bumpers.

The first mod that I did on it was to put manual hubs on it. With this mod, I gained around 3 mpg, because w/the stock Toyota A.D.D., or Automatic Differential Disconnect system, while you may be in 2 HI, or 2 wheel drive, your axles are still rotating, but with the manual hubs mounted and unlocked, nothing is moving, thus less load on the powertrain.

An additional mod that I did was to replumb the vacuum actuated A.D.D. system, such that, the actuator stayed permanently locked. What this mod does is to allow you to shift easier into 4 HI, because w/the hubs locked, everything is rotating, including the driveshaft, thus allowing for an easier shifting. It also allows you to keep all the bearings, including the drive shaft's, dry, moisure wise, and well lubricated, by locking the hubs and driving in 2 Hi for around 25 miles once a month, a once common recommended procedure by all the 4 wheel drive manufacturers when we had REAL 4 wheel drives rather than todays Yuppy generation of 4 wheel drives. My Tacoma has a simular system, except that it is now electric and not vacuum. I evenually want to put a standard locking front end in someday. Shifting into 4 Hi isn't always easy, because of the transfer case gears not meshing properly. I have to at least see about maybe installing manual hubs, for a little more fuel economy. Again I gain around 3 mpg w/the mod on the 4-Runner.
