need new brake pads
i'm only at 19000 miles but alerady i'm hearing the squeak from my front breaks. any suggestions on what to get? from what i've read, performance friction seems to be a good choice. are they still using the part numbers from land cruisers or have they updated their catalong to include 4runners?
i only hear the front squeak, but i'm wondering what shape the rear ones are in. generally how much difference is there in the wear between the two?

As far as I know, Performance Friction still has the part number for the Landcruiser. It's 5024, and at Auto Zone (I went there today), they are around $40 for a set of both. If someone knows better than I do though, speak up now or forever hold your peace! I'm going to have the Toyota people install them when I take the 4Runner for the 35,000 mile check-up. I hope they don't fuss at me during the 4 hours I know I'll be there... For the wear, the front has a LOT more wear than the rear. I know this because after driving 30 minuntes home from work and then spraying the car off, the front brakes produced steam, the rear -- nothing. I don't know the exact ratio though. Maybe 80/20?

I WOULD ONLY DO THIS, go to place that "TRUES" up rotars such as NAPA and have then take just barely a mm off and then put RAYBESTOS pads the QUIET STOP SERIES, a exclusive blend of ceramic ingredients that provides the quietest and cleanest braking capabilities, while delivering increased stopping power and the highest level of safety. QUIET STOP Disc Brake Pads are designed for today's drivers who want ultra-quiet braking, ultra-low dusting on their wheels, and exceptional durability.
its only cost about $5 to $7 to get the rotars trued up, just let them break in the brakes and youll have extremely performance and very awesome quality, trust me!

Brakes!
Replacing only the pads because they're squeaking? did you check to see if they are just glazed over real bad? it is possible, and if thats the case, just sand the pads and pop em back in, coat the outside of the pad (away from the rotor) with disc brake quiet. If you do replace the pads, take the rotors and have them machined (cut) at a machine shop, or even a yota dealer, im sure they'll do it. you dont want new pads on old rotors, the pads will glaze up too fast and you wont be able to stop very well, when you put new pads and the cut rotors on the vehicle, drive for about 10 minutes at 20 mph or so with the brake lightly applied the whole time... should seat the pads nicely, good luck!
