well my 285s are on the way so i need to prepare my rig for what i expect to be a pretty significant power loss. what can i do to get some HP back (i dont want to re-gear or supercharge yet)???

 

1. TRD SuperChager + 65~70hp.
2. TRD Header +30hp.
3. Bolar Cat-back exhaust +/- 5hp.
4. Air box deck plate mod + Amsoil Air Filter +2~5hp.

What size is your tubing for your exhaust? You might want to do is to raise the size alittle bit, but not too big or you might lose low-end. You probably already know that, but I don't know of anything else that you could do. Sorry dude, but goodluck! :beaver:

 

I don't read well either , but I do read well enough to check on TRD's site and the headers is about all thats left and that's only 16 - 17 hp.

 

2.5"...any higher and ive heard of losing power.

 

when i got my exhaust installed, i questioned the guy about headers. he did not recommend them for my truck. he said they hurt the trucks value, screws up emissions, and some other bs.

any body here with headers?

 

The challenge is increasing torque. Torque is what gets you moving from a dead stop, not horsepower. Bigger tires are going to make your performance a little more sluggish but beware of adding horsepower bolt-ons unless you know how they affect torque. Larger diameter exhaust is a classic example of increasing horsepower at the expense of torque.
Ok, so the problem is that the parts responsible for torque/horsepower tradeoffs are the cam and also the bore and stroke of the engine itself. Long stroke motors produce huge torque but have limited rpm (compared to short stroke engines.) In any case the cam is a pretty serious mod to make just because of bigger tires. I had one put on my 22RE, buts thats a different story.

The short answer is that you should change your performance expectations to the same degree you add larger tires. Theres no magic solution. No cheap solution. Most performance mods are aimed at horsepower and higher rpm's.. which is exactly what you dont need.
