nice job on the wheels!

how did they hold up to wheel weights being pounded on for balancing?

I sprayed mine with the tires mounted, so the weights were already in place. I prepped and sprayed over the weights as well. Touch up is really easy, if needed.

Did you consider/price out getting them powder-coated black ?

I would think that powder-coating would be prety durable in the long run as well ?

I think yours look better than the steel wheels.

I did consider that. They wanted $40/wheel pre-prepped, and $75/wheel if they prepped (blasted) them. They also wanted them for at least 3 days, and the tires would have to be taken off. You can see my dilemma.

This route worked out to around $30 total.

I just painted the outside (assuming you mean the "backside" by the discs and drums)

I meant the inside, the part where if your washing your rims you can see the inside, that silver part their not clearcoated maybe some overspray from when they coat the outside but not the inside, the part that is visible if your standing close to the truck, not the back side that attaches to the hub

I believe he's Edge is asking about the "inside diameter" of the wheel.

Hmmm, well either I am slow or we are just miscommunicating. No biggee. I painted everything you can see, facing the wheel, with the tire on. I did not spray on the backside. However, I did attempt to spray the outer lip as best I could, but that proved to be a bit tough because the stinkin tape would not stick in some places.

Let's just say, I could have done much better if the wheels were off the tires. However, you can only see the flaws up close.

I did my outlaw II's in flat black. Looks pretty cool. All I did was clean them, sand with some 300 grit, primer, then several coats of flat black paint. Touch-up for scratches takes less than five seconds.

i plan on getting some crap rims at the junk yard and preping them with por 15. Do you think that will be stronger than other paint?

I don't know what por15 is

Again, its all about prep. So if you do it right, pretty much anything is going to stick. As for the paint on my rims...yes, it is holding up well. A couple periodic touch-ups have been in order, but for the most part they still look great. The lug nuts are most prone to chipping...but then again you can just touch those up too.

I would do this mod again in a second.

I'm debating if I should follow in your footsteps again........ So you just painted them while they were on your truck?

Cuz my bumper is holding up real well.

Actually, I pulled each one off and left the tire on. Ideally, you want the tire off. But that can be a real pain.

Do it Rob!!
