267,000 klicks on the rear shoes and would still be on if I didn't blow a rear seal and leak all over the one side. Replaced them both anyways and turned the drums.

BTW 93 SR5, P/U, 4x4, V6.

As for harsh driving, used to have a decal that read:

If this vehicle is being driven in a safe and orderly manner, then call the POLICE. It's been stolen.

Mish:

read-----267,000 K L I C K S (as in kilometers).

That is nowhere near the kind of mileage you can get out of a set of brake shoes. Pads, however, are another story. I am on my third set and soon need to be replaced along with rotors.

So unless you have more criticism I know a place where you can put that flag pole.

Yessssss!

Hoo-Ha!

I was beginning to think I was some kind of a wimp because my '98 still had its original pads and rotors at 75K miles when I traded it in. This included 25K miles of towing a 4,000# trailer.

I think that you and I share an ability to use brakes correctly. Many others have complained of early pad replacement, warped rotors and general problems with 3rd gen brakes. Not I! My "secrets":

-If you see you'll need to stop, don't use the brakes more than necessary. Lift off the throttle as soon as that light a quarter mile ahead turns red. Let air resistance do your braking as much as possible.

-If you have to make a stop from high speed, shift to neutral and keep your foot off the brakes while the brakes are still hot. This avoids transfer of pad material to the rotor, which can simulate a warped rotor.

This pole was about 160K miles on the original pads and shoes, thsi simply does not work that way.
267K Km is doable on one set of shoes, considering the size of those on 4runner.

..yeah... and you know this because...????

I used the e-brake when parked up until about 6 months ago when it started lock up the rear brakes after I released the lever. THe only way I could get them free was to crawl under my 'Runner and tap on the cables. I sprayed some lube on them but it they still will lock up occationally.

But.. yeah... 160+K miles on the same pads.... dork.

You probably need to take the bellcranks out and clean and lube them. They're the little arms that the cable attaches to. Over time they fill with dirt and corrosion and eventually they jam.

I knew it!! I want my 2 minutes of my life back!!

I replaced my pads at 70K miles, and they still had half left. I wanted to turn my rotors, so I just threw in new pads while I was at it.

All right, 160K miles is possible on one set of pads and one fill of oil, let's just be friends and not start WWIII
Next time I will post some nice porn so we could all have fun.
