You are on the right track with the tune up.

Yes the O2 sensor will cause the truck to not run as well and cause a loss of gas mileage for sure.

Yes the tranny "issue" is normal.

Far as getting better gas mileage on the highway, it depends on what speed you are driving. These trucks are basically driving bricks so if you are speeding at 70mph+ yeah gas mileage will drop. But if driving the speedlimit you should get better gas mileage.
Yeah bud i made sure i got any boot debris out before i went ahead with taking out the old plug, i got all the plugs in and cleaned the throttle body and maf. i got everything back together im gonna go test drive in a second but the real test will be when i drive to and from work tonight.

As far as the highway driving i usually go between 65 and 70 since 70 is the speed limit here, and that puts me at 2k at 65 and a little over 2k at 70. ill see how much improvement i get out of the o2 sensor when it arrives and let ya know.

Oh while i was at it i found another dry rotting vac line and went ahead and replaced it so maybe that will help as well since the old one was starting to crack

test drive went well, started with less hesitation. seemed to have a little more power, it was about to bark the tires pullin out the driveway till i let off alittle. rpms seemed to be running a hair higher than normal but not much, all an all it went well.

Ok so just in preparation for when the o2 sensor arrives i gotta question. After i install the new o2 sensor what all do i need to do to reset everything so the system will learn th new o2 sensor and adjust the AFR accordingly?

Nothing. Just bolt it in.
