We hit a few snags, but we seem to be past them now. Steering is finished and the bumper goes back on today. From there, I will be doing a test drive

I will post more status later today over on the swap thread as well as on my site at http://www.watrd.com/SWAP

Thanks for asking!

There is something for everyone, regardless of ability level and build out.

Sliders and skids are a good bet in the rocks, then lockers, etc.

Protect what you got, then make it better.

That video is from the easy to moderate trails. I have some photos from the more hadcore runs that would make your jaw drop
If that video was the easy to moderate trails I can't imagine what the moderate to hard trails would be like. They looked pretty challenging, but definitely doable. Is there any definite plans for this years trip?

that video looked fun. probably more advanced than anything i've been on so far, but i'd totally be down to go to next year's event. i've got the sliders, but don't think i'll have a locker by then

The class 5 trails were nuts. One mile of trail took us 12 hours at one point.

As I understand it, they are setting dates and locations now There should be news soon.

When you say they, does this Chapter of TTORA have a web site that I can check regularly? I'm still not 100% positive I'll be able to get away, but if at all possible, I'd love to hook up with Steve and other 4runners to get my "spanking" as Steve puts it!

You'll be fine with the proper equipment and driving. Don't give up that easy!

Last year it fell on the same weekend as THE 4-Runner Jamboree in California. Perhaps there is some hesitation to avoid that this year hence the lack of information about either event at this early stage.

Wheeling Arizona is worth it, but only if you are prepared. For down there, this means you want a locker and protection if you are wheeling a truck with a body.

Best bang for the buck would be:
-E-locker in the rear for $300
-Sliders for $300
-Rear bumper for $1000
-Belly skid for $350

That would have you in under budget.

The front locker is not imperative if you are open in both ends now.

Rear bumpers add some piece of mind on approach and departure of steep obstacles.

AzRocks was a TTORA event last year, as the thread says. Steve took out some runner only folks that were there as well.
hey flyg, where are you getting an e locker for $300??

Yup, I was talking junkyard. I am an ARB advocate otherwise.

My bellypan is Rockstomper with K-Fab modifications/butressing.

My rear is Rockware, worth every penny.

My gas tank skid is K-Fab.

What sort of rig have you got? Runner, right?

Save some dime and don't get the carrier, just a rear bumper. Carry the spare strapped down in the rear since you have 31's.

Just remember that for a DD the biggest obstacle is not on the trail but in your head. If you think you're going to sustain body damage then you're not going to try the obstacle. That's why I would recommend armor first and foremost, then a locker or two.

Sliders aren't enough, you also need a rear bumper because of all the overhang 4runners have. That shiny chrome bumper looks pretty vulnerable when there's a 2 foot dropoff. A front bumper is not quite as important because the approach angle is pretty good.

Locker(s) are still needed though.

Oh, and make sure you have the spare parts and tools to make repairs. An extra CV axle is mandatory, spare fluids, idler arm or idler arm brace, etc.

I'll be looking forward to the details! In the meantime, I've got to finish my front/rear bumpers, and next attack my skids, and eventually relocate the gas tank. I can't coundt how many times I've high centered on that stupid thing. Is anybody aware of what year model pathfinder(??) gas tank fits in the spare tire area? I've heard there is a tank that will fit perfectly, and then all the hoses would need to be run.

Hi,
I'm a newbie to both 4x4 and wheeling. From what I have seen here in AZ, anything that'll prevent body damage (if you care) are good investments. From the trails I've already run, even the easy ones, having sliders and more ground clearance would decrease your chances of damage. My rear locker has also helped me get through some sections. My sliders are on their way I hope to meet some of you guys at the next AZROCKS.
