Mixture ?

Hi there all,

Today when I went out to my truck I noted that my new chrome exhaust tip was not shining. This was expected do to the rain that has been falling for 2 days now! What caught me off guard was that there was a ridge of brown dyscoloration arround the edge. On further inspection I noted that there was a rather large amount of soot built up in my 5 week old pipe! The truck is new to me so I dont know what the trend is. However Im wondering if my poor mileage could be ralated to a rich mixture, the same that is depositing sed soot! Any thoughts?

If there is a link, then what is a probable cause for a rich mixture?

Thanks

_travis

It's normal for the soot to build up, even brand new cars with chrome tips have the same problem, just wash frequently

Thanks for the input, but I feel that this is a bit more than a well tuned engine should be turning out! BTW it is a factory new longblock with only 31!

My borla exhaust does the same thing.....a lot of soot and gets a crusty brown brown color......When I wash it, I use chrome polish and then my dremel w/ the polishing attachment (felt donut thing).....shines right up like new......

Travis,

Reading the spark plugs would be a more accurate way to tell if you're running rich. Pop out a plug or two and make sure they're light brown/ tan and not dark gray/ black or wet or sooty.
Let us know what you find - there are a number of possible causes for a rich mixture.
