misfire on #2 and # 5

I have been searching some kind of info. on this subject. I have a 98 4R. with the 3.4. The truck was running fine when I bought it. I decided to do a tune up on it since I had no idea when it was last done. I put NGK iridium plugs and NGK blue plug wires in it. I also changed the fuel filter and air filter. After I did all of this I took of to town to do a little test drive. My CE light came on. I pulled the codes and got misfire on #2 and # 5. I thought maybe a bad coil pack. I switched the packs around, and reset the ECU. I'm still getting the same code. I'm starting to think I may have got a bad wire. Any help will be appreciated. Thanks. Tommy

These trucks, and especially the 3.4's LOVE (and I dont mean the way you love your mom, I mean the way addicts love thier smack, and Flava Flave loves his gold 'teef') OEM stuff, OEM plugs, OEM wires.... NGK plugs are fantastic, but so are the wires, but I would look there for my problem first.

......that is just too funny!

Yeah I would try putting one of the stock wires back on cylinder #2 (front cylinder, driver's side) and see if that helps.

I have pulled them out twice and checked the gap. I went and got some of the double electrode yesterday. I'll put them in this morning. Like Roco Taco said, I believe they like their candy. I did more research and it seems that the plugs may be the culprit. We'll see. Thanks

Ok, I put the dual electrode plugs in this morning. I went out did some running around for about an hour. No CEL and no more codes. It looks like lesson learned on this deal. I do have a set of NGK Iridium plugs with less than a 1000 miles on them that I will take $15 plus the shipping. That is if anyone is interested. I know my truck don't like them. Thanks for ya'lls help anyway.

Well, I guess I jumped for joy a little to soon. My CEL came on again today. Har the codes pulled. The same thing. Misfire on #2 and #5. I called a guy I know at the stealership, and he told me to bring her on in. He tested my wires and they were good. I ended up buying some Denso plugs. Got home let her cool for the day. I just got through putting them, and took it out for a little spin. Same damn thing. Larry told if the plugs did'nt do the trick to bring it back in and they would try to figure it out. This has really got me baffled. Has anyone else had this problem? Thanks. Tommy

No, I don't think they are long enough. He had a hootis that he put on my wires this morning that told him how much was going through them. I think he got a reading of about 26 on all of them.

hmm thats really odd it started doing it after you replaced the wires i also have ngk wires and there great and my old stock wires had 134k on them and would of lasted longer but it was time for a tune up

Yep, kinda weird. I am getting a pretty good collection of plugs though. The truck runs good. I'm getting around 18 to 19 mpg. Got plenty of get up and go. Larry listened to see if he could hear or feel a miss. Nothing. I have had the codes cleared, and they keep coming back.

I had a misfire in the 4th cylinder...P0304 code although I got a mechanic to diagnosis and he pulled up a different code than what I had...He said my MAF was bad and I cleaned it a few times, a little better...although after I ordered a new one, the stumbling cold start up in the mornings and anywhere else I started my truck are fine...now I have to deal with another issue unrelated to that...my gas is goin pretty fast! I have to get my Taco retuned....=(

I cleaned my MAF with that cleaner they have at O'reily's. I also cleaned my throttle body. Like I said the truck starts right up and runs real good.

don't think that a dirty MAF would cause a misfare in speciffically 2 & 5. Does 2 and 5 run off the same coil?

Yep. 1-3-5 are on the pass. side. I believe 2 goes to 5 and 3 goes to 6 and 1 goes to 4. I think that is the way it is.
