It may be time for new shocks for the rig.
I have noticed lots of nose dipping and bouncing going over dips on the highways.

My Edelbrocks were put on in October of ’99.
They have a lifetime warranty I think, but unless you own two vehicles, it’s kind of hard to exercise that option.
What am I suppose to do while I send them back to Perf?

I have been considering the Bilstein’s, and I called my local Les Schwab tire center today.
They can get them in, but they have a new shock that came out a few years ago I am going to look at.
He claims it’s better than the Edlebrock’s I have now, and is as good as the Bilstein’s if not better.
They make the RMX in two styles.

I am also getting some rattling rack there when I go over speed bumps, and it may be a broken shock, I ma not sure yet.
They will put it on the lift in the morning, and I will find out for sure.
But right now it is not riding so good due to being bounced around a lot.
It could be it’s just their time to go, they are over 3.5 years old now.

If I get Perf to send me another set of the Edlebrock’s, I may sell them here on the forum for far cheaper than you can buy them new.

Performance Products can cross-ship items as well, you just give them the CC#. And they don't even put a charge in if they receive the defective product within 30 days.

My shocks are getting weak, and since my rig keeps getting heavier with each mod I add, I guises the shocks break down over time.

I went to my local Les Schwab dealer, and the Extreme shocks I was also thinking of are if you have like a 4" IFS lift.

I am going to go with the regular RMX shocks, but only 2" longer.
Nice thing about these shocks is you can specify the length you want.

I know when Downey sells their coils like I have, they recommend a longer than stock length shock.
The Edelbrocks I have now are stock length.

These new shocks according to the service guy are basically a rebadged Bilstein with the Les Schwab name on them.
The guts inside should be the same as the Bilstein.

Lifetime warranty, and since I will have them put them on, if any defect on me, they cover it right there, and replace it for free.

The Edelbrocks will get sent back to Perf for a new set, and I may sell them, or keep them, depending on how I like the ride of the RMX shocks.

The squeaking noise I have been hearing I suspected had something to do with my Downey coils, as I sprayed them down last week with white lithium lube, and it quieted them down when going over a speed bump or big dip in the road.

According to the service guy, the noise is coming from the isolator rubber pads that go above the coils.
They are a Toyota item, and the coils must be removed to replace them.
To much work for this guy, so I will invest in lots of lube, and spray 'em down when needed.

He said going off road extends the coils as everyone knows, and that can lead to premature failure of the isolator pad.
Any other 2nd genners experience this noise as well from their coils?

They had to order the 2" longer than stock shocks, and they will be put on next Thursday.
I will take a long test drive with them on over the freeway and in town, and report how they handle.

I was told these are a stiff shock, but perhaps that is good since my rig is not exactly at it's stock weight either.
I'd say with the the extra stuff I have, I could be 500 lb over stock.

150 lb ARB & winch
100 lb sub woofer and box
100 lb cargo box and tools
40 lb misc. gear in back
40 lb roof rack

I am sure there's more hidden weight through out the rig.

PS, yep, I forgot to add the sliderz in.
Figure another 100 lb.
I think they weigh about 50 lb each.

 

I've been thinking about new shocks too Corey...Les Schwab tried to sell me the RMX's also, but I didn't know anyone with any experience with them....Let me know how they are...I might go for them too if you think they're any good.

 

I'll be looking forward to your report also. I've always been a big fan of Les and they are pretty much everywhere.

 

Corey, I don't know if you've given this any thoughts but if the shocks don't end up working out for you, you might want to consider the new pro comp MX6's. I can't even tell you how much better these shocks are. My truck rides waaayyy better than it was STOCK! It also rides better then my dad's Acrua MDX and my Mom's (dare I say it) Expedition. Just some food for thought.
