MC replacement Q's

Just wondering if anyone has changed the MC in the 3rd gen 4Runners?

If so how long did it take you?

I have the FSM and I have done them before on cars but didn't know what I was in store for.

My brake pedal keeps fading, fluid looks good and clean but for some reason last night, although very slight, I thought I could feel some brake pedal fade. I have searched and it doesn't seem like this is an issue with the 3rd Gens.

I was looking at buying a new MC guess how much - - - $1,000! WTF? I think I will just bleed all the brakes and flush and see what happens. This is definetly a junk yard part that I am going to buy if it is that much.

I don't know if I'd trust an 8-9 year old used master from the junk yard, it might be just as bad as your old one. Just looking at those master cylinders on the 01-02s is intimidating, but I would look into rebuilding it. Rebuild kits are cheap, basically just some seals.

Try pming GSGALLANT, he has an 02 and knows a lot about the weird brake system on the 01-02, probably more than most of the Toyota dealers.

Just talked with the stealer, they say that every MC they have rebuilt has come back with problems. The stealer also mentioned that they "never have problems" or "rarely see one come in". I found a 02' EVAP canister from S. Carolina with 50K on it. I would trust an MC in that truck over rebuilding it, even with the Toyota rebuild kit you can buy. They said there is a "special procedure" to bleed the brakes. After looking at the FSM, it says it requires the Toyota Hand Held tester and ABS actuator checker. I PM'ed GSGALLANT to ask his opinion.
