Well I installed some mile marker manual hubs a while ago on my '90 4runner and when ever I lock em up and stick it in 4 wheel drive I can't drive and turn either to the left or right all the way without the truck "binding" . It's fine when i'm going straight or not turning so sharply. I feel it has something to do with the bolt and washer that I installed at the end of the front driveshaft. Maybe this is an installation error of mine? It seems as though tightening that bolt against the hub tighter makes it harder to steer in four wheel drive. A couple of times I didn't tighten it very much at all and that helped, but later it loosens out and I hear it rattling in hub when I'm driving. It seems to me that that bolt and washer isn't even needed. I dunno.... any links or info on this would be great. I couldn't find much on this specific problem myself.

 

are you on dry pavement when this binding occurs? 4wd will bind on high traction surfaces when trying to turn, you wont have this problem off road as the tires will 'slip' on the softer surfaces.

its normal... thats what happens with locked hubs and 4x4

 

Yep, Try it out on lose terrain and it should be fine. I can't think of any reason for it to be binding just because you added Manual hubs.

 

cool. Thanks guys. I do find it easier to turn in the snow, but yah, on pavement it skids a little and is much harder to turn.

Any of you leave that bolt and washer off when you switched to manual hubs?

 

Do not engaged 4WD on dry pavement!

It causes the transfer case to wear--and eventually fail. Repairing a 4WD transfer case is expensive. But I am sure you know this.

 

leave the gold bolt and washer in place, its there for a reason.
