Question manual hubs... winter usage...?

up here in maine the road conditions can really change a lot. usually the roads are as clean as they are in the summer, but sometimes can get nasty. and people's driveways, like my own, usually stay pretty icy. so i dont really want to be switching my hubs all the time when i get stuck in a driveway, or when it starts to snow. it can also be pouring rain out like it was this weekend, which makes the icy driveways really bad. i dont want to have to get out and lock my hubs in this.

so my question is.. can they be locked, but still be in 2wd, and drive on pavement, without damage? i know i can do that on trails and stuff or when its slippery, but is it ok when on tar? probably not, eh? just want an answer from someone who knows what they're talking about. an explaination would be good so i can learn some stuff about my truck too. thanks a lot guys!!

locked

It's my understanding that the Aisin hubs locked are the same as the Toyota ADD system is always. ie. Leaving the hubs locked is the same as driving a factory stock ADD toyota so I think you'll be fine.

The reason I put the manual hubs on in the first place was to prevent the extra wear caused by the ADD system and to prevent extra wear from cranking my Torsion bars.

My experience comes from what I know about my 2nd gen though.

Good luck

Will not hurt your rig at all. Should see a little decrease in gas mileage with the extra drag. I leave my hubs locked in winter on various vehicles and never experienced any problems. My suggestion is to fill you front (and rear) differential with a good synthetic gear oil and you are set.
