How easy/expensive was the conversion?

a couple on this board have manual hubs on the 3rd gen 4runner (i think same as your prado)...

easy? no. expensive? yes. well..it can be. if you buy junkyard bits from base model 4WD tacomas (i think hiluxs round your part of the world) there are parts that are swappable. not easy but doable. presses required etc etc.

some good reading:

https://www.yotatech.com/forums/f31/downey-manual-hub-conversion-36789/

http://www.tacomaterritory.com/forum...ead.php?t=7445

couple of places here in N.A offer conversion kits ranging from USD $500-1000. downey being the cheaper (but not sure on quality) and ORS (off road solutions) being double the price but includes everything you need...

it's expensive. takes some good knowhow or good shop to do it right, esp with abs.
i like having manual hubs. i got the parts needed from nix 99 junk yard for $550, member deathcougar works there.

Disconnecting the hubs results in less drivetrain component wear since a lot of parts in the front diff are constantly moving, even in 2WD. You also get a little increase in fuel economy.

Now that I've seen how much it costs to switch to manual hubs, I think I can live with the drivetrain wear and less fuel economy
