making a 4runner as lite as possible

hm im startin to get some ideas. i want it to be lighter so it can be "quicker" im not trying to make a race car, just something that goes. ive already gutted it and am about to herculine the interior. i think ill take out the roll bar and start looking for a top. also if i take the skid plate off, how vulnerable does that make the front end? i dont think the stock skip plate really does that much ne way.

every 100lbs equals one tenth off your quarter mile time. you said that your arent going for race but if you look at it like that then i challenge anybody to gain just 5 tenths and still be comfortable for the driver and passenger...or a date. Put the time into mowing some lawns and buying a header if you ask me.

Rip out all the carpet, the lining on the doors, soft top conversion, put in Corbeau or Recaro seats, replace the entire interior with aluminum sheets and you should be kinda lighter. Once you've done that, replace the whole thing with fiberglass, but don't take out the roll bar, which could save you one day. That's about all I could think of.

do u have a link to some good seats? i cant fabricate any seat brackets or anything so that might be a problem. ive thought about replacing the inside panels wish light weight sheet metal... but would it really be any lighter then the stuff thats there now? even if its not itd still look cool in my opinion

Corbeau has brackets that are for the left and right seats and are respectively C22023L C22023R. it's on their website which is http://www.corbeau.com/. They've got a huge selection of seats and if you look around online, they've got tons of reviews for most of 'em. Best of luck, sounds like it could be fun.

that looks great to me. I'm eventually going to get a set of their Legacy seats. Although they're heavy, it doesn't really matter to me, because by the time I care that much about the comfort aspect, I'll have a 3.4 S/C up front. Right now these seats are just fine and I don't need 4 or 5 point harnesses like in a race car. I think what you're doing will look awesome, for sure, just be sure to keep that roll bar in, you might even want to put in a full cage. You could also look up Kirkey Racing and see their seats for the ultimate weight loss if you're going for as little weight as possible, they've got all-aluminum seats.
