MAF sensor messed up by K&N FIlter...!!!
99 4runner, v6 5spd put a K&N in it, and a little while after, started getting check engine lights on and delayed response to the throttle. Ended up being the MAF. I had to get it replaced. ...theres talk about cleaning them, is this true?> and could i do it myself? if not, how much on avg it would cost me?

yeah man, you can clean them using an electric contact cleaner... or like what i did... a little rubbing alcohol and a q-tip. At worst there are lots of people on this board and on ebay selling used ones for under 20 dollars! goodluck

Here you go on the MAF sensor cleaning:

Sell the K&N on eBay and get an Amsoil....too many have had K&N foul their MAFs.

Oiled air filter + MAF = MAF cleaning
I typically throw a CEL requiring MAF cleaning once between every clean/reoil cycle. Sometimes twice, depending on how well (or not so well) I blot the excess oil from the filter.

Its because they put too much oil on the filter.
DO NOT clean it with anything touching it. Use clean (empty) airbrush, or a low powered spray gun on your air compressor. OR what I like, canned air.

Dont use the squirt tip they give you. Put on a spray cap and just give it a light "dusting". Use as little as possible.

Good time to run some seafoam through the tank and clean the throttle body while you are at it.

That's why I went back to an OEM filter every 5-10k, no chance of MAF sensor oil contamination with it.
BTW, I have an Amsoil filter for anyone who wants it for FREE. I'll even throw in the new oil spray can I just bought.

Sure, I sold a CB to Matt several weeks ago. Have him PM me and I can box it up and mail it to him. I'll clean it before I ship it.
