LSPV siezed
So I grab the LSPV rod and give it a wiggle and it falls off the LSPV (thank you very much road salt!) The boot was full of rusty crud and the little plastic plunger in the valve will not move up; I assume you should be able to? I don't know how long its been like this, I suspect by the state of it quite a while...several years maybe. So I get thinking that without the rod there the plunger could come out of the valve with alarming consequences, so I get the wife to stand on the brake pedal as hard as she can will I watch the plunger and it doesn't move a fraction. I cant really tell from the Toyota drawings if the plunger has a positive stop in the valve or if it just depends on the rod to keep it in the valve body. My concern is that it could come out at the worst of times and lose braking power to the rear axle .Like most of us I really don't carry any heavy loads and if its seized in the unloaded position so be it, the rear brakes do work as I can lock them up and get the ABS to modulate them .I really don't want to spend the money and do the work to replace the valve to get the same braking I have now...so long as it's safe in the present condition and the plunger will not pop out of the valve and lose brake fluid. It was suggested to me just to buy the linkage and replace it thus keeping the plunger in the valve, assuming it could pop out.
