Looking for feedback on anyone running 17s on a 3rd gen
OK, so I am a bit of a newbie still...but I have been searching like a mad man to find any info/pics/threads that give some good feedback of anyone who is running 17in wheels and tires on a 3rd gen. I know that 16" is the most popular route, and tire selection is much better for 16s as well, but I wanted to look into running 17s for myself.
I already have a set of 17in OEM 4runner wheels I got for next to nothing, and ideally I would like to put on a 285-75-17 or a 275-75-17 to complete the package. Does anybody have a similar setup out there? If so, any pros/cons I am missing? What lift is being used..ETC.
Thanks in advance for any input guys!

Hey boss, welcome to YT. Good bunch of people here. Nice freaking NSX you got there. I love SOS stuff, I had some of your goodies on my old s2000. A customer service rep with a widebody CF NSX, hmmm. Hiring??
Anyway, the tire sizes you listed do not ring a bell, in fact a quick search on TireRack yields 0 results for both sizes. Are these sizes even made?
Using this nice little tire sizer chart found here:
http://www.miata.net/garage/tirecalc.html
It looks like your 275/75/17s are about the same overall diameter as my, and many others here, 285/16s we are running. Basically, these are 33" tires. To run 33" tires properly, you are going to need some lift. Many will say 2.5" suspension and a little plastic trimming will get you clear, assuming your wheels' backspacing is good. For me, when I was up 2.5", I rubbed the front when turning hard. Added a body lift to that and no rubbage at all, and never trimmed anything. You may want to consider removing your stock running boards if you have not already, they just get in the way
Hundreds of threads on here about different lift options, search away.

I'm running 17 inch rims on my 3rd gen. Tire size and lift info is in my sig. No real problems, no rubbing (except when compressed in front a bunch). The only problem I have had is getting the things balanced. I need to go in every 7000 miles or so to get them rebalanced. I don't know if this is due to the rim size, Tire size or the fact that they are MTR's. THe rims are 17 x 9 with 0 offset....

Awesome! Thanks guys for the input, exactly what I was looking for...
Payyourtoll, Thanks for the info, I had not even started the search for tire sizes yet since I figured I would finish getting my Tundra/OME lift done before I have the final tire decision...and I actually have not for sure decided to use the 17s yet, a nice set of 16s with more tire is my other option I am considering. And I have an acoount with TireRack so I will need to stick to sizes they carry since I will be purchasing there, I am going to do some looking today to get an idea of a few different options.....
You are so right about the people and the info here at YT.. The 4R community is great! I just happen to own 2 vehicles both of which have a great enthusiast following...the NSX people are all awesome too, NSXPrime.com if anyone ever wants to check out the forums... HAHA and BTW, I work at SoS part time and its not bling pay trust me...I have spent 3 and a half years dumping every little bit of extra $ in that NSX and making a lot of parts myself..and having no kids or wife may help a little too I am sure! But now I have decided to start putting more time and effort into the 4Runner, so dont be surprised if in a few months my 4R may have some full CF body panels and other lightweight composite goodies..
Thanks again all!
