Looking for advice on which generation 4Runner to buy.

I found my 1998 Limited (with e-locker) for $5,500. It did need a bit of work, but I have around $8,500 into a super reliable daily driver and mild/moderate off road vehicle. Great creature comforts and a great road trip vehicle, too.
If daily driving is your primary use, you can't go wrong with a 3rd generation 4Runner. If I could do it all over again...I'd look a little harder at the 1st gens, though...

For a daily driver, get a 3rd gen, you will never regret it.
If you are looking for a trail rig, then a 1st gen might be what you want, cheaper to mod and if you can find a solid axel truck then you really are ready to go.
I pretty much have my dream truck now, except for missing the e-locker.
I have a 2000 limited that now has a supercharger and all the bells and whistles. just need to finish the suspension work and it will be done, going to give it a mild lift and some slightly bigger tires.
Great daily driver, very comforable, affordable, relible, with the supercharger powerful, and even gets 20mpg!
Can't really beat that IMO.

Ask for opinions on Yota Tech and opinions you will get. Each as different as the owner's ride.
Here is mine: 3rd gen, 99 preferred with 3.4 4x4. Never mind wether or not it has taller springs, chances are you will replace them. I got mine 2 years ago for $8k with 120k on the ODO. It is the Highlander edition but the original suspension is long gone. So go with what you can afford and what you like. Regardless of the final decision...
