Just bought a 97 limited TFR with a busted rear shock. I want to lift about 3" this summer but I need to fix this shock now. Rather not waste money on a shock now and a longer one later.

Any reason I shouldn't do half the lift now and just do the rear and drive around raked? Would this be if any safety concern? I can't see why, just look a little odd. But it already sags an inch so big deal if it has 2" of rake right?

I wouldnt. 2"s a lot, think of dropping your front end by that much. If you have the money just do the whole lift now.

I'd imagine the ride would feel awkward too.

 

i would suggest that you go to a junk yard and look for good looking rear shocks (maybe from a 2001-2002 MY 4Runner) so you won't have to pay for a big amount. then when you have the cash buy a new pair of shocks to match the 3" lift springs

 

Ya junk yard will have to do. It's my sons first car I thought it was drivable and safe...for now. Turns out brakes are worse than I thought, shock broken, and some minor suspension bits need replaced to be safe.

Wife won't let me pay for it...life lessons and all. So I'm on the hunt for as cheap as possible so he can drive it.

Local junk yard shut down at end of year that had a gen 3. Others in the area only have gen 2 or gen4 TFRs. Anyone doing a lift and want to donate some rear shocks? I'll pay shipping.

 

Is it possible to just put longer shock but not springs?

Bilstein 24-249966 says for trucks with 0-2" lift. Seems maybe it could work for now and when we put in the springs.

Am I crazy?
