To lift, or not to lift?
My '99 is looking for a facelift at 98K miles. I already have brakes and shocks on order ('Refresh' on UPS every 5 mins ). The tires (Les Schwab All Terrain SXT) have about 70K on them and are starting to run bald, so I'm looking for a set of new shoes.
I'm looking at the BFG A/T and M/T, but I am at a fork in the road:
- should I stick with the same size 265/75/16
- OR go all out for a 3" lift and 285/75/16?
This will still be my daily driver, but looking at get back on the trails sometime soon. It looks like a ~$100 diff between 265s and 285s, and about $400(?) for the 3" Revtek lift, so am looking at possibly $600 difference between the two.

lift that sucker. it's your ride, have fun with it, do what you really want. it's only money, you'll earn more.
esp if you're gonna wheel it, you'll like the difference.

Wrong forum to ask that question!! 99% will say lift, so just go for it!
I'm not sure on rubbing with the 285's but I'm sure lots of folks on here will be able to help out.

zup, Ken.
I'm in a exact same situation. I'm thinking of a similar setup with my everyday ride '99 4runner. I've heard a lot of issues with cv boot ripping, cv joint bending, axle bowing cv leakage etc., which is giving me 2nd thoughts on the whold dilio. If I do decide to go for it, It'll be:
- 32" instead of 33's to repel any rubbing (maybe 1" bL and slap in the 285's)
- diff drop kit comes with it, I believe (can anybody confirm this?)
- blistein shocks (any sug. on coils? same/others?) would my back end sag with out shocks/coils on the '99 4runner? I know you need longer shocks on the newer models.
I do very minimal offroading and lift will, primarily, be for looks. I have 130k mi btw.

When I first got the revtek I put on some 33/10.50's and they rubbed a little bit when I turned and and a lot at full flex off road. Throughout the time i have had my lift I tore one CV boot and I found it to be a pretty cheap and easy job to fix. The only bad thing about the revtek on my truck was that overtime my coils really started to fade and I lost a lot of the front lift.

Thanks for the feedback everybody.
outlaw, did your kit come with a diff drop? I just called around and the current Revtek kits come with a diff drop to help out with the CV angle.
Right now I'm thinking of going with a Revtek 3" lift and 285/75/16 BFG AT KO's. hmm.. that lift needs longer brake lines... might as well get new bumpstops as well...
Ouch that mod bug is biting me hard. Somebody come over here and hide my credit cards from me; bring your oven mitt!

Revtek kit comes with a longer break line. Outlaw, you don't have after market shocks and coils on you rig? I've heard good stuff about blisteins. After market shocks and coils should be the same in length as the stocks for 3rd gen runners, right?
